Watch Nokia 8 being scratched, burnt and bent
The year of 2017 has been a major one for the Nokia brand. HMD Global, the Finnish smartphone maker has launched four new Nokia devices this year ranging from a feature phone to mid-range handsets and to flagships. Nokia 8 is the company’s newest smartphone in the market and the most powerful out of the four. It is already available in select markets and will soon be available in India as well. Although the innards of the Nokia 8 is flagship-grade, how tough is it from the outside?
A YouTube channel called JerryRigEverything has put the Nokia 8 to test. The video shows the smartphone going through scratch, bend and burn test.
As we’ve seen with his other videos, the Youtuber starts with his basic scratch test on the Nokia 8’s 5.3-inch QHD screen covered with 2.5D glass and coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The smartphone shines through the test. It does get scratches but at the most extreme levels. Keys and coins won’t be affecting the display of the handset.
Since the entire front panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, the front-facing camera, sensors and the physical keypad don’t attract any deep scratches as such.
Although HMD has used a single slab of Series 6000 Aluminium to make each and every unit of Nokia 8, it is durable and doesn’t bend when applied human force. In his test, the Youtuber was not able to bend the smartphone, declaring it one of the strongest ones in the price segment.
However, since Nokia 8 is all metal from top to bottom at the back, it is seen easily getting scratches at the back. The dual rear camera setup covered by glass didn’t acquire any scratches.
As for the burn test, the flagship smartphone’s display was kept directly under the lighter. Although the affected area got black, it did retain all the pixels after around 10 seconds.
Recalling the specifications, the Nokia 8 boasts a 5.3-inch IPS QHD (2560×1440 pixels) 2.5D Glass display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It runs the octa-core processor by Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835, clubbed with 4GB LPPDDR4X RAM. Sporting 64GB UFS 2.1 expandable storage, the smartphone supports microSD card up to 256GB. The smartphone has two 13MP rear cameras and a 13MP front camera. What keeps the device running is a 3090mAh non-removable battery that also supports quick charging technology.
