Watch Google Pixel 2 failing miserably in scratch, bend and burn tests
Google Pixel 2 is definitely one of the top-rated smartphones of the year. Since it comes directly from Android’s parent company Google, it has the best specs onboard. But what about the handset’s build and durability? If the new video is anything to go by, the Pixel 2’s build can be simply termed as ‘disappointing.’
The smartphone has gone through JerryRigEverything’s scratch, bend and burn test. The video shows the Pixel 2 going through each test and failing miserably in them.
Google Pixel 2 scratch test
As with every other smartphone, the YouTuber starts testing the Google Pixel 2 with his regular scratch test. Here, since the smartphone sports a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating, it fares just like other flagship smartphones in the market. The entire front panel has the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating, so the front-facing camera and bezels are also scratch resistant.
However, things get ugly when the metal back panel is put to test. The metal unibody smartphone has a ‘hybrid’ coating, which comes off easily when in touch with sharp objects. The coating comes off, exposing the metal underneath. This means keys and coins may bring some scratches on the handset.
The side and top bezels along with power and volume buttons are seen attracting scratches pretty easily.
Google Pixel 2 burn test
The YouTuber also puts the OLED display of the Pixel 2 under fire using a lighter. Here we see the screen losing pixels and turning the heated area into white after 15 seconds. Unfortunately, that leaves a permanent mark on the handset.
While you won’t probably keep the device directly under fire in any circumstance, it does prove to be weaker than others.
Google Pixel 2 bend test
Finally, the Google Pixel 2 goes through the bend test wherein the YouTuber uses his own force to bend the device. Once, again the handset failed the test, bending to the extent that it is clearly visible. We see a crack developing around the volume rocker, below the plastic antenna.
Although the Pixel 2 comes with decent specifications under the hood, it is really disappointing to see it fail like this. Customers might not be using the smartphone under such extreme conditions but it may become a deal breaker as others in the same category managed to pass these tests.
It is worth pointing out that Google has always been focusing on its software rather than hardware. And since last year the search giant has started making strides towards Artificial Intelligence.
