Google last unveiled its large screen Pixel device back in 2015 in the form of Pixel C tablet. Fast forward to October 4, 2017, and Google has unveiled the PixelBook. This new ChromeOS based laptop is a hybrid one as it comes with a 360-degree rotating hinge.
Google PixelBook price and availability
The Google PixelBook comes in three variants based on the processor and RAM combination. The base model is priced at $999, while the other two cost $200 and $650 over and above. It is also compatible with a new stylus that is sold separately at $99. The device is up for pre-order in the US and the exact date of shipping has not been revealed yet.
The $999 model comes with Intel Core i5 processor, clubbed with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage, while the $1200 model sports 256GB SSD storage. The $1650 variant comes with Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB NVMe SSD storage.
Google PixelBook specifications and features
Google says its PixelBook is the most powerful laptop that, “comes with premium hardware; the speed, simplicity and security of Chrome OS; the smarts of the Google Assistant; and all your favourite apps on Google Play.” It is also the world’s first to support Google Assistant. This means users can give voice commands to the laptop to get their work done. There is a dedicated button as well to trigger the Assistant on screen, in case users want to type their queries instead of giving voice commands.
Working on apps has also become easier than before. Users can download and work on all those apps from Google Play on the PixelBook, what they use on their Android smartphones.
Sporting a backlit keyboard, the hybrid laptop makes use of its new trackpad, which now comes with a ‘special touch-processing algorithm’ for better accuracy and precision. The charger used by the PixelBook is the same as the one used with the Pixel smartphones. Another nifty feature Google has added to its laptop is that the device automatically shifts to the connected Pixel smartphone’s data when there are no Wi-Fi networks around.
With 10.3mm thickness and 1.1kg weight, the PixelBook also makes for one of the lightest laptops in the market, claims Google. It sports a 12.3-inch QHD (2400×1600 pixels) LCD touchscreen and supports 72% NTSC colour gamut. Featuring dual speakers, the laptop also has 4 microphones with noise cancellation for battery video calling experience.
Made out of Aluminium, the Google PixelBook has protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass and has a HD (720p) webcam. In addition, users get a 3.5mm headphone jack and two USB Type-C ports for charging, 4K video output and quick data transfer.
The Google PixelBook Pen accessory weighs 21 grams and is powered by a replaceable AAAA battery.
Backed by a 41 Whr battery, the PixelBook supports fast charging wherein it can run for up to 2 hours in 15 minutes of charge. A complete charge brings a usage time of up to 10 hours.
