Amazon took everyone by surprise today (September 28) by launching as many as six devices including a new speaker, video streaming device, home hub and others. All the devices are up for pre-orders from the company’s own e-commerce platform. The firm has introduced its Amazon Echo (2nd-gen.), Echo Spot, Echo Plus, Echo Connect, Echo Buttons and Fire TV 4K.
Amazon Echo (2nd-gen)
The new version of Amazon Echo carries the same set of features like the original one except for a dedicated bass tweeter and a modifier. It also is shorter than the original Echo but retains the cylindrical design. It can now make free calls to the US, Canada and Mexico. Priced at $99 (roughly Rs 6,500), the Amazon Echo is up for pre-orders in the US and will start shipping from October 31. Device with Oak, Walnut and Silver finish costs $119.99 (roughly Rs 7,800). The e-commerce firm is also selling a pack of three Amazon Echo devices at $249 (roughly Rs 16,300). Some new finishes including cloth and wood have also been revealed for the Bluetooth speaker.
Amazon Echo Spot
The Echo Spot is an altogether a new device from Amazon that is a smart alarm clock. Unlike your regular alarm clocks, the Echo Spot has a 2.5-inch screen that can be used to make video calls. It can also be connected to external speakers over cable or Bluetooth. The device also supports popular streaming services including Prime Music, Pandora, Spotify among others. This accessory will cost you $130 (roughly Rs 8,500) and is up for pre-orders from the e-commerce website. It will be going on sale starting December this year.
Amazon Echo Plus
Amazon Echo Plus can be easily confused with the original Echo as it has the exact design. It sports the same elongated cylindrical design but instead of a speaker, it acts as a smart home hub. It connects with several other home appliances and gadgets and controls them based on your voice commands. It also includes second-generation far-field microphones and also supports Dolby sound. Each box comes with a Philips Hue smart bulb and is priced at $149 (roughly Rs 9,700). It can be pre-ordered via Amazon.com and will start shipping starting October 31.
Amazon Echo Connect
The Echo Connect acts as a speaker and also lets you make phone calls using Echo speakers. Priced at $35 (roughly Rs 2,300), the accessory makes calls using the connected handset so the receiver will still know who is calling. The Echo Connect will be arriving later this year.
Amazon Echo Buttons
Echo Buttons are hockey-puck shaped buttons that can be used to play family games. The buttons light up when connected or when in use and comes in packs of two. It is priced at $20 (roughly Rs 1,300) and will be hitting the shelves within this year.
Amazon Fire TV 4K
Fire TV, which has been launched by Amazon already supports 4K resolution videos. However, the new Fire TV 4K supports 4K HDR 10 videos and can play 4K videos at 60 frames per second. It is a flat square-shaped dongle that has a HDMI cable to connect to the TV. It integrated Dolby Atmos audio system, making it a cheaper entertainment box than the 4K supporting Apple TV. The Fire TV 4K comes powered by a quad-core processor and supports several Alexa skills. You can pre-order one in the US for $69.99 (roughly Rs 4,600) and wait for it until October 25 when the shipping starts.
