Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has been teasing it’s two handsets, the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus for quite some time. A couple of days ago we saw both the smartphones being teased by the company’s director of product and marketing. And now the firm has finally launched the smartphones in its hometown, China.
Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus price
Both the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus come in two variants based on different Ram and storage capacities. The Redmi 5’s 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant costs CNY 799 while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant is priced at CNY 899. On the other hand, the Redmi 5 plus’ 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant costs CNY 999, while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant comes at CNY 1,299.
Both smartphones will be going on sale starting December 12th. They will be available in four colour variants – Black, Gold, Light Blue and Rose Gold.
Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus specifications
Coming to the specifications both the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus support dual SIM cards and run MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. The Redmi 5 Plus comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display while the Redmi 5 Plus sports a 5.9-inch full HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display. Both smartphone screens come with 18:9 aspect ratio.
Powering the Redmi 5 is the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, while the larger ‘Plus’ variant is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. They both have the same camera specs. There is a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.25-micron pixel sensor and f/2.2 aperture, while at the front there is a 5-megapixel camera with soft light selfie flash. You also get the Beautify 3.0 app for improved portrait shots.
Some of the connectivity features included in the devices are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, microSD card support and a Micro-USB port. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is backed by a 3300mAh battery and the Redmi 5 Plus boasts of a 4000mAh battery.
Xiaomi has not yet revealed when will it be launching the two smartphones in markets other than China. However, since the company has its Redmi 4 line in India that has performed well in 2017, it may also bring the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus in the country soon.
