Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG has been doing the rounds for the better half of the year and has stirred up bigger waves than any other game before. It has broken numerous records while it was still in the public Beta, or Steam Early Access. It took on games like Dota 2 and Counter Strike Global Offensive and pulled ahead of them by a margin.
PUBG was released in Early Access in March and now on December 21, developer Bluehole finally launched the 1.0 version of it. Prior to this, the studio had launched an Xbox version which has been criticised for its optimisation problems.
In the 1.0 version of PUBG, developer Bluehole has said that the server performance has been improved by almost 50%. They have implemented two waves of adjustments to deal with server stability issues since PC 1.0 test build #3 update hit the test servers.
Apart from these there are balancing and polishing in terms of gunplay, sound, animations and other features and systems the company plans to continue after launch.
Bluehole is considering limiting the maximum ping depending on user network status in order to establish a smooth gameplay environment and enhance server stability. But before applying the measure to all regions, they plan to fully investigate its feasibility and analyze the outcome, so will be running a limited test.
After implementation, players with a high ping difference from average ping range for the region they are playing in or players connecting over a long distance will not be able to connect to a match. As a result, only players in a certain ping range would be able to enjoy the game together on the same server which leads to a more stable and smooth environment.
The studio even commented on the stronger prevention measure of cheaters and have said that they have removed an estimated 67.5% cheaters. They admit that it is not possible for an online multiplayer game to remove all cheaters but they would give their best to prevent any disruption in the gameplay experience.
There is now a new ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner’ tee shirt in the game that is being awarded free to anyone who logs in the for the next few weeks.
