Streaming live on any platform is fun on any platform. Going live is like getting up on the stage where you know everyone have their eyes on you. And you are the centre of their attention. It only gets better when you have a companion to share that stage with. And now Instagram is going to give you that platform.
Instagram recently added a neat feature to its live videos where people can live stream with their friend. Facebook introduced this feature earlier this year and now Instagram has introduced this as well. People watching the live stream of a friend on Instagram can now request to join their live stream and stream together for all the people to see.
Celebrities can use this feature to interact better with their fans and maybe even choose who can come on live and join them. This might seem risky because someone might just say something inappropriate. Though there is no way to prevent it presently, it needs to be considered that people can do that in the comments section as well. Instagram might add a delay to the stream of the participant for the primary user to censor it. But there is no option of that presently.
How to do it
When you are watching a friend’s live video, simply tap the ‘Request’ button in the comments section. This will prompt a confirmation to your friend who is streaming that you want to join them live. Once that person has accepted your request, you’ll have a moment to prepare. And once you’re live, the screen will be split in half so people can your friend and you. You can leave your friend’s live video at any time, And they likewise have the option to boot you from the chat.
As for the person who is streaming in the first place, they will be prompted with a notification in the comments section if anyone wants to join the live video. They can just tap the ‘View’ button and then choose to add you or cancel the request.
A new icon with two smiley faces has been added which will also have a red number showing how many requests you have. Tap this icon, and you’ll see both the requests and current viewers. This gives you the option to either accept a request or invite any viewer to join you.
