Over the years, Tesla has revolutionized the way people see cars. However, the company is not only about cars but trucks as well. Elon Musk and team recently showed that it is prepared to enter the heavy truck segment by introducing the Tesla Semi truck.
On November 16th the truck was unveiled along with Roadster, the hypercar which seems to have already blown everyone’s mind with its performance numbers. It is the fastest production car in the world (60MPH in 1.9 seconds).
The new Tesla Semi truck will definitely have the same elements of simplicity, sophistication and power; qualities that have made Tesla stand out from the crowd. Let’s have a look at what Tesla’s Semi truck has in store for everyone-
Super exhilarating performance
A fully loaded (up to 80k lbs) Tesla Truck can go from dead stop to 60 MPH in just 20 seconds. This is possible because of its four individual highly capable motors which also offer instant traction control for more control over tricky turns.
New standards of safety
Tesla claims its Semi truck is the safest truck ever. It has advanced safety features like enhanced autopilot system which can also be seen in its cars, a centred position of the driver that provides a wider view of the road and low centre of gravity that makes it difficult to roll the truck or turn it upside down in case of an accident.
Technology in cockpit
Tesla can’t miss its legacy feature of big touchscreens. The truck’s cockpit will feature two touch screen displays, which are positioned on left and right of the steering wheel to serve the driver with all the information. Driver’s seat will have air suspension giving a bouncy and comfortable feel for the jerks on the go. Tesla has not furnished many features as of now as the truck is still in the prototype stages.
Massive cost reductions
The main purpose of launching the truck is to reduce cargo transportation costs by consuming less energy and saving more time. By electrifying the Semi truck, Tesla has not only been able to eliminate fuel costs but has also immensely reduced maintenance costs as there are no engines in the automobile as such. Tesla truck would consume less energy in 2 kWh per mile as compared to other diesel guzzling trucks.
Simply aesthetic design
Tesla has always won people’s hearts due to its minimalistic, simplistic and futuristic design. The new truck looks amazing and is soothing to eyes with no unwanted extra designs and features.
You’ll start watching the Tesla Semi in 2019, which is still a vague time frame. However, it has already received numerous bookings. Interested buyers will have to pay $5000 for reservation.
According to Electrek, Walmart and Loblaws have already made bookings for 40 trucks followed by JK Moving Services, a cargo moving company in North America with 4 trucks.
